Manufacturing Standard Cost Initial Import

Posted on by 450

I am developing an initial import of standard manufacturing costs into GP.  From what I've read I need to the following steps:

1. Import into IV00101 for all items (Smart Connect)

2. Import costs into CT00003 for bought items (SQL script)javascript:void(0)

3. Import  made items into ICIV0323.  (SQL Script).

4. Then I would do a rollup and revalue. (GP)

Am I missing anything?  I know if I just change the standard cost value in the item card that it doesn't use that value in the roll up so it must be using the costs from another table.  Any help is much appreciated.

Richard, thank you.  I sent you an email.

Bron, thanks for the advice on macros.  I am a seasoned programmer and I have created macros before by recording a macro for one item and then writing a vb.net program to modify the macro for many items instead of using a mail merge program.  I use a macro for populating the routings.  However, it takes a really long time to run a macro for thousands of items and I wanted to avoid doing that in this case if possible.  Thanks again for taking the time to answer my post.

I would never attempt or recommend using table import for Inventory Items. GP has the ability to create a macro and to play a macro.

There is a process where a user can use the 'mail merge' process to create a very long macro that replicates entering items - I have an old document that I would be happy to share with you. It's a step by step guide to creating a macro - then putting the macro into Microsoft Word - merge the macro with an excel listing of item numbers and finally finishing with a macro that you will 'play' with your cursor in the item maintenance screen - the macro emulates a user entering items at record speeds (pretty fast - much faster than any human can go). Since you are using the interface, GP is hitting all tables correctly.

If you send me your email - I will send you a copy of the document......

Oh yes, you need a couple of scripts to precreate CT00003 and IVIC0323.  Email me at rwhaley@accoladepublications.com and I will send you those scripts.

You are going about this the wrong way completely.

Yes, when you use standard costs the costs are taken from the ICIV0323 table.  The values in this table must be set correctly.

The ONLY thing you should need to import or set is the standard cost of purchased items.  Most people simply move the current cost (if it is not 0) to the standard cost field.  Then the rollups will calculate EVERYTHING else.  You DO need correct BOMs and Routers.

The explanation of Standard Cost is too big for this forum, although many of us will give you snippets of knowledge.  We cover the creation of Standard Costs in our Product Engineering book.  Get a copy fast.

Thanks for the advice.  Bron one thing I know is by using Integration Manager for the items it copies that standard costs automatically to the other tables.  This is because integration manager is like manually entering the items into GP as opposed to SmartConnect which uses econnect and ignores the manufacturing functionality all together.   I recommend that people who are purchasing the Manufacturing module purchase Integration manager instead of SmartConnect for this reason.

Because of budget constraints we couldn't purchase both so I am left with the task of doing direct table imports.  I am using a combination of SQL profiler and test case scenarios to figure out what I need to do exactly to do the import.  I thought by posting to the forum I could gain some knowledge about the process from other users who have been charged with a similar task.

Bron is giving you great advice - if you've never imported MFG data into GP before - do yourself a big favor and consult with someone who has.

RE: Manufacturing Standard Cost Initial Import

I've never used smart connect. I use table import for Bills of Materials and Routings (two tables for each item). I use integration manager for the items.

Import items - be certain you have the make/buy correct for both Item Engineering and Item Resource Planning fields.

My point in earlier post - it doesn't matter what costs you stuff in the ICIV and CT tables - the rollup and revalue will delete them and re-populate them (and depending upon version - will populate a cost history table). The rollup and revalue doesn't 'read' those tables - it populates those tables based upon IV00101, IV00102, IVR10015, BM010115 and BM010415 and RT010100 and RT010130 tables.

It's a complex process - MBS really needs to address MFG integrations but has failed to do so.

Most folks can't simply just figure it out on the fly........I've got lots of scars along the way. Mapping is really tricky for direct table imports and the various fields using combination of GP IV tables and Mfg tables makes the process complex.

It's good your using this forum. Hopefully you're using a test company first :)...........

BTW - you should manually enter one FG item (and components) - one mfg bom - one primary routing - update item engineering and item resource planning fields - then roll and revalue and then check the IV, ICIV, BM, RT, CT and IVR tables.........it's a good way to learn how the data flows - the SDK might also be worth a look.........

RE: Manufacturing Standard Cost Initial Import

I am importing Bill of Materials and Routings in an earlier stage of the import process.  Specifically I want to get the initial costs stuffed into the fields from an existing system.  I need to get costs into the system from Made, Bought, and Either Items.

You've said you've done a lot of imports, what method do you use to import?  We have SmartConnect, which doesn't appear to populate any of the tables needed for manufacturing.  Unless I am missing something which is possible.

RE: Manufacturing Standard Cost Initial Import

Are you also importing the Bills of Materials? The rollup and revalue will populate the ICIV and CT tables based upon the mfg BOM (and Primary Routing) for make items and the std cost field (Item Maintenance - IV00101) based upon item type of buy.

I've done lots of imports and have never imported into the ICIV and the CT tables.

Normally, import - items, boms, routings and then rollup/revalue. System populates CT and ICIV tables.

Make sure item valuation method is periodic.

Good Luck let us know how it goes..........
