Unable to retrieve data for the report. Error Details – The conversion of a nvarchar datatype to a datetime datatype results in an out-of-range value

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are in the process of evaluating POS 2009. Installed under SQL 2008 on Windows Server 2008, as well as 2 clients 1 on XP and the other on Windows 7 Pro. All machines fully service packed and with latest updates. We can run only a handful of the 50+ standard reports in POS 2009. No sales reports work at all. We constantly get the error -

Unable to retrieve data for the report. Error Details – The conversion of a nvarchar datatype to a datetime datatype results in an out-of-range value

We have checked regional settings and all are set correctly for UK. Any thoughts would be helpful.

You get the UK version from here:

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../POS2009NFR.htm

Hi Bill, I haven't gotten the workaround to work.. around,. .but I'm keen to know where you sourced the UK version from. I too got my POS2009 direct from Technet for eval, and am having the same issues. I had always suspected something to do with the regional date variations from US to UK, but didn't know if it was a SQL based issue that I would have had to change

Hi Jeff - thanks for responding. Shortly after we discovered the 'bizarre workaround' we found there was such a thing as the UK version (not from MSDN where we originally downloaded it). We applied that and all ills with reporting were 'cured'.

    Bill,

Are you sure you're using the UK version of POS2k9 and not the US version?  They are different so I'm told, but we don't use/sell/support the product.

Bizarre workaround discovered. If you change the settings in Control Panel to English (US) rather than English (UK) and then modify the formats for date and currency within the English US settings, the reports work (but show $ as the amounts rather than £'s). I have set up a 1 to 1 exchange rate for $'s to £'s so the only thing that is not right is the currency symbols in the reports. The register shows £'s. How very strange - this issue needs to be dealt with by Microsoft
