Attaching sales literature to an email within Dynamics CRM

I'm sure this should be easy, but can't seem to do it!

The CRM Team Blog describes a simplified sales process here: https://community.dynamics.com/blogs/cscrmblog/archive/2008/05/16/crm-4-0-simplified-sales-process-scenario.aspx

and at the appropriate stage our hero "sends Sales Literature information to the customer via e-mail to see if they are interested in other similar products".

I have Sales Literature set up within CRM 4.0, but cannot see how to easily attach this to an email.  The email activity allows me to insert a Knowledge Base article, but this does not give access to the Sales Literature.  On the attachments tab if I click "new attachment" again there is no access to the Sales Literature - unless I browse to copies created on my own PC which defeats the object of maintaining current versions within CRM.

Where am I going wrong?

    Hello,

I notice this is around 6 months old - did you find out an answer? We have the same "hang-up" - namely attaching sales literature to emails to contacts without first saving to disk (and very likely then getting the wrong item attached!)

    Thanks,

    Dr. Michael Dye.

    Hello Michael

Unfortunately no answer was ever forthcoming for this question, the conclusion being that it cannot be done...which is staggering for a system as sophisticated as Dynamics CRM.  Maybe it can be configured to somehow do this by an expert, but if so I would have hoped that would have been the response on this forum.

In future I plan to make use of simpler CRM systems that, while being considerably less costly than Dynamics, can do the obvious things more easily.  This wasn't the only aspect of Dynamics that left me less than impressed.

I wish you luck in finding an answer to this, and if you ever are successful I would appreciate you letting me know the solution.

    Best regards

    Gerard Ryan

    Good evening Gerard,

Just a quick note to say that I’ve managed to figure out how to attach sales literature to email – if you’re interested (and it’s a bit long winded!): 1.       Add new item to email: new_salesliteratureid which is a lookup to sales literature (I position this on the attachments tab).2.       Use a custom plugin (C#, VS2005) to read this when creating/updating and then use the information to transfer the attachments from the sales literature to the email.  Plus some Javascript to make it nice to use.

If you’re interested I can send you the core of the C# code; this does need compiling and registering etc.  I’ve not yet fully tested this (e.g. attachment size etc.) but the concept works!

[I agree that Dynamics CRM is immediately frustrating  when trying to configure for what seems an obvious requirement...] Thanks,

    Michael Dye.

Thanks for letting me know Michael.

It sounds a tad complicated for me, though I would appreciate the code as I will pass it on to my client so they have the option to implement - they are software programmers, though obviously not Dynamics CRM experts, so may well be able to implement it.

    Thanks

    Gerard Ryan

    Hello,

Sorry for the delay - I thought I really ought to post this on my web site as it requires a fair bit of code and explanation.  And my website was horribly out of date (!) - so I've done some quick updates:

    http://www.dyetech.co.uk/articles/CRM4/articles_CRM.htm

Please let me know if that link works!

    Thanks,

     Michael Dye.

    Michael -

Thanks for posting that explanation on your site.  We have a similar situation - but would like to attach documents stored in "Notes" to outbound e-mails.  I tried to follow your procedure, but didn't see any way to create a relationship between the e-mail entity and notes.

Have you encountered this requirement?  If so, do you have any advice?

     Thanks for your time!

First of all nice suggestions are here This conversation is going nowhere. It’s lacking the place of a good Leader to head the things to come out on conclusion.

Yikes.... Way complicated.   So there must be something that I too am missing as that is just over the top and the reason that you want to roll your own crm lite that is built ontop top share point. ;)
