Last Activity Date from Timeline

Hi all

In the past we've added a rollup field that look at the Last Activity date from the Activities entity and added this to Contact / Account, etc. but with the introduction of Timelines I'm wondering how we can get the last date from this instead (as it would make more sense to grab this). Yes the Timeline can have Notes, etc. as well but that is ideal for what we are after.

Can anyone point me in the direction on where I should be looking to grab this date for the Timelines on Contact / Account and any custom built entity as well.

Thanx

Steven

    Steven,

Maybe I'm not following. The timeline didn't introduce any new fields or entities (as far as I know), it just shows those same activities, notes, and posts a bit differently. The activity dates should be the same as you were using before.

    Thanks,
    Wes

    Hi Wes

True but an activity is taken as an email, phone call, etc and Notes are independent from this...so Timeline now includes Notes when you view "the Timeline" but they aren't really an activity. As such I assuming that Timeline is constructed view a View (looking at Activity and Notes) and then ordering them by date...it was this method I was trying to determine to be able find the latest date on a Timeline.

What I'm having to do at present is query the Activities and the Notes and determining the latest date from this to populate the field...it works but it's "messy". I was looking for a cleaner solution to this.

    Thanx for looking

Yes, it seems there isn't a built in mechanism to consolidate the activity/note/post dates to provide the date that any activity was done on the record.  So you need to do what you have done, Steven, or create workflows for each activity, note, post, to update the last activity date.
