Marketing Lists include inactive records

Hi,

we decided to de-activate contacts rather than deleting them in CRM, however they remain on all marketing lists and are mailed continously after being de-activated.

Do we have to remove them from all marketing lists and delete their e-mail addresses to prevent them showing up on the lists and being mailed in the future?

I have created a workflow to set all communication to "Not allowed" when they are set inactive, however this is not satisfying.

If you have any ideas, I thank you for your time and input.

 Best, Henrik.

    Hi Henrik,

The approach which you have indicated in your email is the regular approach. Although it does seem unlogical to your situation, there are situations in which this is requested behavior. You will not have to delete the email address, setting the flag of "Send Marketing Materials" to false is enough.

     With kind regards,

Hi Henrik, another solution which I've seen work well in practice is to write a workflow plugin triggered when the contact state changes to inactive that removes the contact from all marketing lists.

That approach would work as well. When choosing a solution for this issue, keep in mind what you would like to happen to contacts which do get reenabled. Should they stay on the marketing list or should they be removed. This choice depends on your business situation.

     Kind regards,

    Ronald
