Unified Interface App Randomly Crashing

(0) ShareShare

I have been using the Unified interface w/ no real problems for a few days. However, today it started crashing on me while I was using it in Firefox. It started whenever selected appointment records from an entity grid view. Then when I would select records on subsgrids on the Contact form it also happened. I had to go back to using the legacy web client. Has anyone else had this random crashing happen? Is there a good way to debug or figure out what might be causing it? Nothing I can think of changed that would have been the start of it. All I have been doing since using is editing forms.

I have the same question (0)

First I will suggest to change the browser for sometime . This will help to isolate your issue.   To troubleshoot you can capture Fiddler traces or Network traces to find the root cause and if you still have issue then I will suggest to raise a case with Microsoft support.

I've never experienced crashes of the Unified Interface.

Do you have any custom JavaScript on your views, or perhaps in your Command Bar buttons?

I also advise that you raise a Support Request to help you troubleshoot this issue http://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com/support

I do have javascript that fires onload of certain forms, and then some javascript that runs off a button on the Ribbon above forms and grids. However, it was working in Firefox for about 2 weeks without issue. I confirmed that I am having no problems in Edge. Firefox continues to crash.

Seems raising a ticket is a popular path, I will try that and share any insights.

    Henry,

Have you found javascript that worked in the legacy web client can end up causing problems in the UI? Most of our javascript is up to date and following best practices and the current FormContext framework (not the XRM.page)

Thanks so much . Please let us know. Also from your response its clear that issue is specific to a browser. Sometimes if browser version is old then it can also cause issues. If you would like to stick to FireFox then may I suggest to check the version and if the you find the version is old then upgrade the browser  as well.

    Hi Ben,

JavaScript using supported methods should work when used in the Unified Interface, but there might be edge cases.

If you haven't seen it, and if it applies for you, I also recommend that article on moving away from synchronous request: https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/turbocharge-your-model-driven-apps-by-transitioning-away-from-synchronous-requests/

For now I am simply going to stick with Edge. Prior to this problem Firefox was freezing up on me a lot. I know some of our javascript is asychronous, but some of it may be synchronous. I will check the solution checker and see if that may have been what was causing Firefox to freeze up using the legacy web client. Either way, its not as much an issue in Edge. Since MS makes both Edge and Dynamics, is it reasonable to assume to that Dynamics will perform better in Edge, or is that not necessarily the case?

I don't think we specifically optimize developments for Edge (based on Chromium, so same engine as Google Chrome), but rather try to adopt modern browser standards that we support for Edge, Chrome, Firefox, etc.

As I have understood, it was all about certain versions of my web browser. I'm still not quite sure what was it exactly. Anyway, as I know it also can be because of poor built web application, because I've heard a lot of mentions from people about errors they were seeing. It's pretty important to think about every level of developing processes during web development any kind of application or game. Our little dev team also face some issues with game development nowadays, so we consider about asking this top game dev studio iLogos, because we've seen a lot of great works and solutions they have accomplished. Honestly, I've never seen so many successful and versatile game projects like they made. Have you heard something about them?

I am not sure what it was, but my Firefox was up to date and the Unified Interface was unusable - crashing all the time. I switched to Edge and it works wonderfully, haven't had a single crashing issue.
