Analytical Accounting | Default Account Class

Posted on by 235
How can I setup a default Account Class for a particular customer or customer class? If I have an Invoice in the Sales Transaction Entry window, I want the default Account Class for that customer to be picked up by default. Seems to me that the last created Account Class always shows up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The only way I would see you correct this without customisation or additonal products is to look at the Account Framework that you are currently using.  If you have for example at a basic level have 2 segments (Seg1: NOMINAL Seg 2: CUSTOMER TYPE),  then this will allow you to assign different Account Class to accounts with a certain segment.  Analytical Accounting is not flexiable unless your chart of accounts is and could run into trouble with customisation.

M4 System SOP GL defaulter allows you to control what GL accounts to be used for the sales account in an invoice.  You can for example in a four segment chart of accounts take the first segment from the item, second segment from the debtor, third segment from the debtor class and the fouth segment from specifed value.  It also allows you to control the commisions and freigh account codes adding total flexabilty.

If you imagine this module could default the accounts you need and depending on the account that is defaulted (base don your rules) it will then call up the related AA Account Class

Let me know if we can help further with this

Thank you for your clarification. I don't have an answer for you (hate when that happens), but I do appreciate your restatement of the question. Perhaps someone will pop in with a solution!

Hi Leslie: Thanks for your replying. Sorry for the confusion; I'll clarify. Just found out that an account can be linked to only one account class. So that explains the 'last created account class' - accounts previously linked to another account class got unlinked when I linked them to a newly created account class. Let me rephrase my question: As you said, the distribution accounts will come from the customer (we have it setup that way). Now depending on the customer, we wanted the correct account class to be picked. So I'm looking at some sort of link between the Account Class and the Customer/Customer Class. But since each account can be linked to only one account class, I don't think this is possible out of the box and maybe a customization is required. Has anybody done this before? Is this possible at all? Transaction dimension codes vary by customer class so we were hoping to default them instead of having to manually overwrite each time.

    Hi maman,

I do not think you can do this. The account number will never come from the class, it can come from the customer or the company (or the item if you have it set up that way). I may not understand your question because I do not understand the comment that the 'last created Account Class always shows up'.

I also do not understand the context of the question as it relates to Analytical Accounting.

For me anyway, I need more information.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
