Adding more characters to the display name on fields

Hey Guys,

I am tasked with adding a discovery doc which is currently housed on excel and used by sales when winning new business. I want to add this to the opportunity entity so when the sales team are populating the opportunity details, they also have easy access to adding the discovery doc answers too.

Some of the questions are long, and i am running out of space on the display name when creating a new field. Is there a way to increase the number of characters on the display name or have you another suggestion of getting a document such as a discovery doc which has about 150 questions into dynamics?

Thanks

Jason

    Hi Jeson,

i doubt if you can increase the length but i have followed an easy approach without ripping the system apart. here is what you can do.

    1. create multiple lines of field for each questions.

    2. put this field on the form.

    3. Create a business rule and set value = your questions text and finally lock them on the form.

    4. create your normal fields in which you wanted to capture the response. Put those below above fields.

    I hope this makes sense.

    Hi ,

I think it's better to write your question as in the text field (not as a label) and make it read only

the add another field for answer .

    just a quick workaround .

You mean place the question within the description field as per the screenshot above. Users can then see the long question if needed and Ill come up with a shorter question to fill the display name??

Out of the box, you might probably create a new entity and display it in the subgrid. In the name field, you would put the question, and you would have another field for the answer. Then you can have a workflow to create 150 questions for each new opportunity (and, maybe, on demand, for the existing opp-s).

If you don't want to go that route, you might also try an HTML web resource where your users would enter the answers, and you would still store them on the opportunity, but you would use that web resource to display the questions/answers on the opportunity form. That would involve some javascript development.

No thats not we meant - if put the text in the description field - user will see when they hover over the field not by default.

what i meant is create a multi line of text field and set value to it using business rule and lock it. ( this is the field/place on the form from where user will read the question)

and below it you put actual field where you need to capture the response to the questions.

please also consider options given by Alex above.

    Hello,

I believe this is not the purpose to having field label in the entity. So having large label you need to find some alternate solution.

I would recommend to create single line text for question and miltiple line text for answer and hide the label.

Thanks for all the tips on this. I think I have received some very good ideas here on how to get around this issue i am having. I did come across a new issue, that being I ran out of fields within the opportunity entity. previous builders of our site didn't plan it out so I will create a new entity for my list of questions and go from there.
