Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)

export employee information from Dynamics GP

Posted on by

It's been a loooong while since I have dealt in Dynamics.   I have a new installation of Dynamics 2018 (w/ eConnect).  I was shown the employee information within the application, but now I am trying to pull that data out (preferably from c# or powershell) on a regular basis.   Is talking to eConnect the way to go?  Seems like most examples are for writing information to Dynamics.  I am strictly reading data.   Should I be looking to the database directly instead?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Erik

Thanks for sharing some breadcrumbs.   Victoria's table reference has a section on Payroll tables that is exactly what I need.   Thank you!

The SDK has payroll but not HR. You can click on Tools->Resource Descriptions->Tables and then the series and product to get an idea. If you are still stuck let me know the information you need and I can tell you the tables. You can also use the handy table reference provided by Victoria Yudin located here victoriayudin.com/gp-tables.

That's definitely along the lines of what I am thinking.   Do you know if schema documentation is available?  I peeked at the tables and there are many of them (and cryptic too!).  I don't know where to look for HR/Employee data.

    Thanks,

    Erik

You could create an SSIS project in SQL and then schedule that process to run at whatever intervals necessary.

This needs to be an automatic, recurring process.  The SmartList is how it was shown to me interactively within the application.  Is there a way to pull SmartList data from an API?   Or maybe there's a way to schedule a smartlist to automatically be run regularly and deliver an export to a specific file folder or email address? I do have access to the database, but worry about breaking changes happening there (although since we are talking reading data out only, that might not be a show-stopper.

I'm doing integrations with a few different systems and this one is the only one that doesn't seem to have an obvious option.   I'm looking for advice from people who have done something similar.

    Thanks

Erik, We have done a similar employee & other info Data export out of GP  for our customers based on their specific requirement,  using custom GP programming.  This export will happen automatically or manual button click & on-scheduled time.  If you are interested please let me know.

Does this extraction need to be automatic or will it always occur manually? I assume using SmartList is not sufficient? eConnect is used to write to the GP database. You could set up a SQL view and then point Excel to that view to extract the fields you need. VS is also another way to go. There are several options.
