Icons on Outlook indicating tracking in CRM

Greetings -

I am testing the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook as a replacement to the Outlook Client for CRM we have used in the past.

If I recall, there was an icon that would appear along side an email in the Outlook inbox indicating it was tracked in CRM.   I'm not seeing this with the new app.  Am I missing something?   It was helpful to be able to see at a glance which email records in Outlook were being tracked in CRM.

Thanks.

    Hi Paul1204,

The Dynamics 365 App for Outlook does not have an icon to indicate tracked emails by default. However, you can achieve this with conditional formatting to emails in your inbox based on the tracked status in CRM. Read this article to learn how to implement this.

Yes, but this has to be done for every folder where emails are stored.  This workaround is an abomination and that Microsoft didn't include a tracking icon as a functionality for the app shows how pathetic, yet, sadly, powerful Microsoft is.

Hi - actually there is now a built in mechanism to do something similar to the icons. The product team knew that being able to see which emails are tracked at a glance was important and so they implemented category based tracking - see [View:https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/crm/2018/05/02/introducing-outlook-category-based-tracking-in-server-side-synchronization/]

It can also be used to do bulk tracking like you could in the old outlook client as well.

    Hope this helps

Thanks - we have version 9 and although this article indicates it works on version 9, I am not seeing clear information on how to download the tool and how to set it up.

I should also say that we are giving up on the Outlook Client because, like so much Microsoft, we haven't gotten it to work since upgrading to version 9.
