W-3 Report not picking up FICA Med wages or taxes over $200,000

The 2013 W-3 is short on FICA MED income and taxes by the amount over $200,000. The amount shows correctly in the Summary inquiries, however. It appears to be a combined amount in the year end wage file so I am confused as to why it is correct in the employee and company summaries but just got left off of the W-3 report. Is there an issue with the report?

Thanks!

    Hi,

I think the issue may be whether you ran the year-end wage file after you loaded the 2014 tax tables. If you change the tax tables to reflect the 2013 percentages and re-run the year-end wage file, is there still a problem?  How about the W-2; does it reflect the appropriate amount?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

The year end wage file was run before the 2014 tax tables were installed, however, they apparently did not realize that that there was a service pack also. they are currently only on SP 1 for GP 2013. Does anyone know when the change was made to pick up the over $200,000 amounts on the year end routine?

Have they not installed the year end update? When you look at your Medicare tax tables, does it show the 200k split?

Leslie, We also are having the issue that the W-3 transmittal form is not reflecting the amounts over $200K in our GP2010. The year end update was installed. The year end wage file is correct. At first we had the issue that the W2's were not matching the year-end wage file and another blog indicated to change the UPR10100 table so that the field FICAMWLM was set to '0.00000' for the reporting year (RPTINGYR) of 2013. This fixed the W2 printing (i.e. W2's then matched the year-end wage file). However the W-3 is still off by the amounts expected over $200K for the Medicare wages and tax. Obviously the year-end wage file is not the source for these reports or they would match. There must be some table that the W-3 transmittal form report is accessing, similar to the W2  form print report but I sure can't figure it out.  Any ideas?

Changing the 200,000 FICAMWLM to 0 worked for us. What does the W-2 Validation Report show? Thanks!

I'm glad that worked for you! Our W-2 Validation report is fine. Changing the 200,000 to 0 worked for the W-2 printing but not the W-3 transmittal form. The Year End Wage Report is correct for both the W2 and W3 information but that is not getting reflected in the W-3 transmittal form.

When the year end wage file is created it captures the FICA amounts from the tax table at that time. That is why changing your year end wage file worked for you.

Have you tried changing your FICA tables back to the 2013 amounts and then re-running the payroll year-end close?

I wrote a blog article about this that might help. dynamicsconfessions.blogspot.com/.../how-is-ficas-wages-and-withholding.html

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
