Bank Reconciliation

We are having a problem balancing the bank balance to the book balance in the bank reconciliation module.  Recently we started a new procedure where all banking activity goes through cash receipting or payables.  When we have a wire transfer or EFT or anything like that we are doing an increase or decrease adjustment where we used to do journal entries for those.  We had a couple of items in the beginning of the year that a journal entry was done and in order to get the bank balance to match the GL we had to do the reconcile adjustment entry.  In the past this entry didn't hit the GL but they are now which is throwing off our GL balance.

My question is, now that I have this problem how do I get rid of it?

If I do another entry of the reverse of what I did before then the bank balance is going to be off and how am I supposed to correct that?

Also, last month we had some NSF's that crossed years, how do we get those to reconcile?

Thank you for any and all help!!

    Hi Shelly,

Every transaction you do, of any kind, in the Bank Transaction Entry window WILL impact the general ledger. I do not recommend turning off the integration, even for a single transaction. Instead, if you want a zero balance impact on your cash balance, simply use the same cash account for the other side of the entry. You'll have an in and out transaction in GL with no change in balance.

You may have to open your account maintenance screen first and check the box to Allow Posting, if it is unchecked.

After you make this entry, I strongly suggest you go in to the Account Maintenance window and turn of posting for all of your control accounts. Like, for instance:

    Cash

    Accounts Payable

    Accounts Receivable

Fixed Assets (if you use the module)

Payroll expenses and liabilities (if you use the module)

Inventory (if you use the module)

Doing that will help prevent entries directly to those accounts. If it defaults from the module, that will be fine, but you can't select it as a distribution account.

The checkbox I'm referring to is just to the right of the Account Alias field.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Oops,

    Forgot one question.

For the NSF's - the fact that they crossed years shouldn't make any difference to the checkbook.  You may want to extend your 'cutoff' date so that your reconciliation will include the date of the NSF.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
