How Transfer Journals affect dimensions

Hi,

We have a retail business and we identified dimensions as follows:

- Department: is the department according to organization structure

- Cost Center: the showroom

- Purpose : Items main brands.

I would like to get the stock (inventory) of each showroom from Financials module so in every transaction we enter the dimensions ... We have a problem with Transfer Journal since it does not have financial effect ... So the stock is not transferred financially for a cost center when tranferring items from a showroom to another ... Can we make any kind of setup so that dimensions are affected when we do a transfer journal ??!! Our partner (implementor) says we cannot but I think Axapta can do this ... (logic!) Please help .. i would highly appreciate it ..

You would need to link the site to the cost centre, activate the site dimension link and when you move it to another site the "To" dimension would alter to reflect the change in dimension

If the stock is in the showroom, why would you then keep it on inventory, Typically these would be taken out against a showroom expence account instead.

Dear Weaveriski,

Our implementor only identified one site referring to the company and showrooms were identified as warehouses and cost centers... Does your answer mean we have to reimplement and identify a site for each cost center ?

My answer tells you how the transfer journal could change dimension based upon standard requirements. I cannot comment on what your implementor has identified because you could be asking for 1 reason but it has been setup in the way it has correctly for the other 99 reasons.

You would need to talk to your implementor about this concept and the possible change and how this will affect all of the other decisions you have made.

I asked the implementor and the site has no effect the way it is now setup and there are no 99 reasons for setting it up this way! i am asking if there is an alternative where a transfer voucher could have a financial effect on cost center without linking the cost center to a site? thank you.

If there are no reasons not to have multiple sites (warehouse structure/Costing implications/Pricing impact etc.) then set up multiple sites, activate the link and the transfer journal will do the rest.

There is no alternative way as standard to process a transfer journal and alter the financial dimension for cost centre, your other alternative would be a modification.
