agree with Dilyana, that D365 Marketing can achieve the scenario you describe out of the box using record update.
you can even execute CRM workflows from customer journeys (though should not be needed for just sending emails)
if you are completely bypassing D365 Marketing (and not using journeys, or using legacy D365 > Sales > Email), this is not the correct forum.

Have you created your customer journey yet? Emails are sent out based on the way, conditions and branches you design your customer journey.
