One of my customers recently bought another company that has an on-premises GP 2016 server. They want to know if they can disjoin this server from the existing AD domain join it to their AD domain without royally breaking everything. I have only been able to find information on transferring the install to a new server (which is fairly straightforward) but haven't been able to find anything about switching domains. I suspect it's possible, but based on what I've read it seems like it would break all the logins and probably not be worth it.
Is It Possible (And Supported) To Migrate GP Server To New Active Directory Domain?
In terms of Dynamics GP itself, the application uses SQL authentication for client login. The only places where the domain will come into play is if you are using a feature in GP that makes use of Windows Authentication. This functionality includes workflow, the Web Components (either the Web Client and Service Based Architecture), Web Services for Dynamics GP, the Dynamics GP OData service and any SQL Server Reporting Services reports that you've deployed.
For GP Workflow you'll need to go to the Workflow Maintenance window and assign new managers and approvers from the new domain.
For the Web Components, Web Services and the OData service you will be best served by reinstalling those applications, selecting domain accounts from the new domain. You would also want to assign new Windows credentials to your GP users as appropriate in the User Setup window in GP.
SSRS itself probably has its own process for switching service users, etc. In terms of GP you may just need to adjust user permissions in the SSRS web portal site.
