Management Reporter 2012 (GP2013) and Windows 10

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi everyone,

I'm testing our applications on Windows 10 and so far only this one is giving me a headache. When attempting to install Management Reporter client 2012 on the box (Dynamics GP 2013 already installed and connected, everything works as intended) I receive our good old friend

"Unable to connect to the specified server. Verify that the Management Reporter application service has been installed on the server and that the specified address is correct"

Now here's where it gets interesting. The same installer will go through on another machine (Windows 7) and connect just fine. I have done the following troubleshooting. If you think of anything else, I would really appreciate. If nothing comes up to mind I'll have to contact Microsoft directly and use that support we pay for ;)

*Please note that we kept port 4712 for Management Reporter

- Management Reporter is running and accessible from all our machines on our Domain except Windows 10

- Same installer works in parallel on a Windows 7 box

- Windows 10 has been joined to the domain and shows up in the AD computer list

- The box has access to the server (ping, RDP, telnet to port 4712, etc.)

- http://Servername:portnumber/SecurityService.svc returns the right page when browsed from the box

- Changed default HTTP opening application to Internet explorer 11 (Thought it could have been a Microsoft Edge issue)

- Timezone and time matches those of the server

- Windows 10 is up to date with all updates

- No firewall on the box and corporate Firewall allows traffic to and from for all UDP/TCP ports

- RPC service is running

- Turned on Network discovery (just for the sake of it, I was out of ideas)

- Turned off the AV

So... what else could be checked? I'm really out of ideas here....

Hopefully this is your issue, if not I'd be happy to help troubleshoot if needed. By the way you don't need to install the software from the user that will be using it. Report Designer and viewer are usable for every accounts on the PC so now we just pre-install them on their PCs ourselves with our admin account. So if you have a win10 machine available you can just test it real quick and see if it works for you. As you said it's not installing on any on those w10 machines

Thank you,  Mathieu!  I will remote with her this week to try again (hours away).  I thought this user is an admin in MR, but will need to double-check.  Thanks again!

Oh yes, it was actually quite simple.

You need to be logged on the machine with a user that has admin access to Management Reporter.

I gave my domain user admin access to Report Designer and logs it on the machines, then run the Management reporter installation.

The error is really misleading, even though it looks like a network communication error it actually was a user access denied error.

Odd stuff. Let me know if that works for you

Did you figure this out?  Our customer is on MR2012 CU9 and are in the middle of all getting Windows 10 machines.  This will not install on any of them, only Windows 7 and below.  I cannot find what version is compatible with Windows 10.  They do not want to update MR at this time so trying to see if there is a work around via security or registry, etc.

    Thanks,

    Althea

Did you figure out what was blocking it?  We're using Management Reporter 2012 with GP2010 and Windows 10 Pro.  The only issues we're having are intermittent issues downloading reports in Edge.

Please Note the version is Windows 10 Enterprise (TRIAL for 90 days)
