Calendar needs to be set for the parent project

Hi,

We are in the process of testing the Project management and accounting module. It´s three users using the module, myself and two more. Both of them get a warning message when creating subprojects saying: "Calendar needs to be set for the parent project". This seems to be solved for them when filling in the parent project the field "Scheduling calendar":

But this does not make sense for two reason:

* We are not using project scheduling or budgets at all.

* I am not getting this warning when creating sub projects, so it makes me think that it´s user related.

Any insights?

Thank you very much!

    Hi Rahul,

As far as I know the calendar is used in the project hierarchy to validate start dates and end dates for every project and not only for every activity. That is way this is mandatory when creating a subproject and not only subproject format.

The calendar specified or modfied from the parent project is automatically updated in the subprojects. From subproject, you can specify a different calendar to one in the parent and it will modify calendars in subproject behind this branch.

Calendars set in resources are used to calculate the capacity of every worker and then it is compared with project planning.

Hope this answers your question. Let us know if you have any doubt.

    Regards,

and if calendar varies per project, could then make it mandatory or bring it to the main list page for users to assign and trickle to child projects

    Hi,

There is a setting in the project management parameters where you can define a default scheduling calendar that is automatically inserted at the time new projects are created. I would recommend making this setup especially if you are not making use of this functionality and simply want to get rid of this warning.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
