GP slow for one user

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I'm having a problem with GP being slow for one user.  If the user clicks the sales tab at the bottom left, GP just hangs for about a minute; The problem follows the user around to any computer they useDynamics.exe will consume an entire CPU core at this time.

This happened before and we "fixed" it by creating a new username and assigning the same security.  However, about three weeks later, the problem returned to this username also.

Has anyone seen this before?  I don't want to keep creating usernames and trying to outrun the problem.

Thanks

    Hi Carl,

Did you check if the user has access to the OLEPath specified in the \data\dex.ini file.   I had performance problems once because of that.

What happens if you customize this user's home page with nothing? You do not have auditing enabled for this instance of GP? I would go back to trying SQL profiler with no one in GP or SQL. Then log in as this user and see what happens. There must be some process that gets kicked off for this user.

As I mentioned, the sales page is just one page that is slow...financials and other tabs exhibit the same behavior.

This user must have added something to the homepage for sales. Check all the metrics that appear on this users homepage and then on sales and eliminate them one by one until you finding the offending item.

Upgrading to the latest ODBC didn't help (was on 10.0 prior)

One full CPU is used and memory usage is close to 900,000KB

    Hi,

Not sure what global profiles are.

    No

    Yes

Identical security to the rest of the department

Hey Carl, are you using global profiles in the domain?

Is GP installed on a terminal/citrix server?

If you log on to a machine as you but log onto GP as the user is it still slow?

Check the users SQL security too...compare it to someone else.

    Cheers

It follows the user...I can log in as that user on other computers and still have the slowness. Creating a new user and using that username on the computer in question worked for a few weeks, but now has the same problem as the first.

What about this user going to another computer or another user coming to this computer? Does the issue follow the user? If it is only on this computer try checking the SQL ODBC driver. It may be an older version. Actually I have sometimes used an older driver because it was faster. Change the driver and see what happens.

What sort of things would I remove?  The sales tab is just  my example, the same thing happens with other tabs as well.  (Note that I did create this user a new user account and the problem still happens)
