Hi Mariette, we hit issues with this too.
Unless it's changed in recent months, the event portal is not customised the same way as the other power app portals. This is (when we did it a few months back) actually an angular application. To customise it you need to download the angular code, customise the code and reupload it.

To customise this portal, for some reason, you need a programmer familiar with angular. Once we realised this we were able to customise at will (had skills in house luckily).
