Power Apps - dataverse connection

Hi all,

We have a third party booking system and currently when a booking comes in, the user inputs these details manually (archaic I know!). We are using Power Apps as our CRM system which I built, but I am aware that the information is stored within the dataverse.

The booking system is able to connect to Zapier to allow automation, and this would bring the information through to an Excel Workbook.

My questions is - is it possible to have an Excel Workbook in the dataverse, which with import the information from new bookings into the CRM which would then be stored in the dataverse?

Please excuse my limited understanding of this, as I really don't want to lose any information we already have, but at the same time am wanting to automate the simple process as soon as possible.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Many thanks and stay safe

Mark

    Hi Matt,

Thank you so much for the information.  Looking at everything, it might be a better route to go down the Zapier Dynamics 365 route.

I am using the MS Power Apps and not Dynamics 365, but this does appear to connect successfully with Zapier.

I would like to forewarn you here that I am NOT an expert! Everything I know about MS PowerApps, Web design and creation is from learning and not formal training, so may question may seem a little bizarre!!

I have to use the API setting rather than an entry being put direct into a table, as Zapier searches for the default tables, and not all of my bespoke columns are listed. So, if I am going to use the API function, I presume it would be the PUT option for HTTP (I know that sounds a silly question!)? The URL would be my organisation dynamics address? The Query String Parameters would be the column Schema in my bespoke CRM, and which item the booking form would relate to it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Mark

    Hi Mark

    Yes, it is possible.

Last year Microsoft introduced a feature in Dataverse called Virtual Tables. This allows you to connect to other data sources and combine it with Dataverse and model-driven Power Apps.

There are a number of steps to complete in order to set it up. More information can be found here: learn.microsoft.com/.../create-virtual-tables-using-connectors

Known limitations and troubleshooting with virtual tables: learn.microsoft.com/.../limits-tshoot-virtual-tables

    A couple of alternative solutions:

    • Create a Power Automate flow when a new row is added to an Excel file, you could then create a new record in your relevant Dataverse table.
    • Investigate if the Zapier Dynamics 365 action can directly create a row in the relevant table instead of Excel.

    Good luck with it.

    Thanks

    Matt
