    RE: Inactive Account Segment

It is possible to inactivate entire segments by using the mass modify function.

Our chart uses 4 digit account structure followed by a 3 digit department structure, so say I wanted to inactivate all the accounts for a department that is no longer in use..say department code 700.  I would click on Cards and then go into Financial and choose Mass Modify.

Change the Modify drop down to 'Inactivate', Change Use Account Description From: to 'Account Segments'

Account will be From 0000-700 (or whatever department I wished to inactivate)
to 9999-700 and All Accounts would be selected.

Change the Accounts Segment Sort to 'by Department' and change the Display to 'Selected Range'

In the display area you should see all the accounts that are within that department, click Modify to set all the displayed accounts to Inactive.

Warning: If you do not have Accounts Segment Sort or Display options set correctly you will inactivate your entire chart.

    RE: Inactive Account Segment

As Mohmoud said, Inactive segment is out of box in GP. Better create a macro or SQL script to inactive the chart of accounts for the specific segment ID.

    Hope this helps!!!

    RE: Inactive Account Segment

As mentioned above, there is no method in Dynamics GP to inactive an Account Segment.

I am trying to find if there is a way to inactive a segment so that it can't be used in the future accounts.

    RE: Inactive Account Segment

There is nothing as inactivating segments in Dynamics GP. You can inactivate the account, as a whole and prevent any further transactions on it.

In Dynamics GP, segments are tracked according to the number of accounts on which they are used, in case they are not linked to any accounts, you can check the "delete unused segments" through the financial end year closing.

I am still not sure about your inquiry, do you want to inactivate a segment so that it can't be used for future accounts, while keeping the accounts on which it is used as active ?

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,
