We are planning on upgrading from SL2011 FP1 to SL 2015 CU1 as well as migrating to Management Reporter and installing SL 2015 WebApps CU1.  Is there a recommended order in which this should be completed?

Any information is appreciated!

    Helllo Ruthie,

As of my knowledge, we need to do the upgrade in the below order.

    1. Install SL 2015

    2. Update the SL 2015 CU1

    3. Install SL 2015 WebApps CU1

You could find the InstallationGuide.pdf in your SL SDK folder which will definitely help you. Hope that helps.

    Ruthie,

Will you be upgrading in place or moving to a new server?

    Hi Ruthie,

    1. Back up the SL2011 FP1 system and application DB in SQL server
    2. Restore the DB in new server
    3. Update the server name in domain table.
    4. Update the Windows username in Windowsuseracct (Domain\username) on Userrec table.
    5. Install SL 2015 and update the SL 2015 CU1
    6. Run the Database Maintenance screen, upgrade the SL 2011 FP1 DB – SL 2015CU1 with Windows name (Domain\username).

    Thanks,

    Ajit Kannan S R

First of all you do not install the SL 2015 CU1 upgrade on a computer that is running a prior version to MS SL 2015.

    System Requirements:

This SL 2015 CU1 is compatible with the following versions of Microsoft SQL Server®

    • Microsoft SQL Server® 2012 or later versions, Standard or Enterprise Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server® 2014 or later versions, Standard or Enterprise Edition

This service pack is compatible with the following operating systems:

    • Microsoft Windows® 7 Service Pack 1 or later versions
    • Windows Server® 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 or later versions
    • Windows® 8 or Windows® 8.1 or later versions
    • Windows Server® 2012 or Windows Server® 2012 R2 or later versions

You can have this upgrade in two ways

    • You can have SQL and SL in the same machine
    • You can have SQL & SL on different machine.

    Upgrade Steps:

    • Install SQL server
    • Install Dynamics SL 2015 and update the SL 2015 CU1
    • Take a backup(.bak) of SL 2011 Databases (application & System)
    • Restore the DBs in new SQL server
    • Update the ServerName in Domain table which located in System DB
      • Update Domain Set ServerName = 'XXXXXXXX'
      • Execute the above query in System DB. Here ‘XXXXXX’ refers Server Name
      • Update the Windows User ID in UserRec table which located in System DB
        • Update UserRec Set WindowsUserAcct = 'Domain\UserID’
        •  Update the Windows User ID in UserRec table which located in System DB
        • Run the Database Maintenance and upgrade the SL 2011 DBs to SL 2015 CU1

You can find the system requirement pdf in the below URL.

    Hope this explains.
