On prem NAV extract

Greetings,

we used nav on prem from 2020-2022.  We moved away from it and now are faced with what to do with the server it is housed on.  We need to keep the financial data for another 5 years.  Is there a way to export and store all the data?  What have others done?

Thank you,
Chris

most user friendly way would be to keep it alive for another 5 years.

If it is enough just to have transactional data, You could export all the needed tables to Excel, but then it could get complicated when users needs to find some additional details about specific transaction (like additional dimensions), and You will not be able to create printouts (like sales invoices) if it is needed.

I have seen only 1 company where exporting transactional data to excel was enough, others usually keep the system running, with only 1 or 2 users having access to it and providing needed information to other users upon request.

If you are planning to reuse the server then, you can setup a desktop / laptop and move you NAV there, so the audit can be carried out smoothly if required in future.

Hi, It is best practice to export the required data to Excel.
In addition, some partners retain the SQL license and continue to access BC data using external tools.

Hope this can give you some hints.
    Thanks.
