Item reservation based on Sales Order Date or Sales Order Number (Number Sequence)

Hello Experts,

We are facing an issue where item gets reserves for any Sales Order as the inventory receipt in warehouse.
Automatic reservation is on.
We are using Moving Average Method
We are not using Advance Warehouse Management

Scenario is:
Inventory qty is zero (0) of an item in a warehouse.
Multiple sales order is made in System (when qty is zero for an item).

SO_0001 (01-Aug-2022) (Qty=50)

SO_0002 (05-Aug-2022) (Morning) (Qty=25)

SO_0003 (05-Aug-2022) (Evening) (Qty=100)

SO_0004 (07-Aug-2022) (Qty=75)

After few days on 10-Aug-2022 Inventory for an item is received (qty = 100) and stocked added to warehouse.
The inventory for that item gets reserved automatically as any of the sales order open by user e.g. who open sales order first gets first.

Requirement:
The inventory must be reserved first for the 1st sales order then 2nd and so on.

Thanks

Hello Riaz, as far as I know the reservation is not triggered when you open the sales order but only if an update on the sales line is triggered ( in auto-reservation setup).

The scenario you are describing does not work with auto-reservation, it works in the opposite way because if you had stock before placing orders it would have reserved following the sales order sequence FIFO.

If you need to reserve orders FIFO when there is no stock first, you will need to use manual reservation.

thanks for answering, we are experiencing this issue frequently, is there any way, we can reserve stock by sales order sequence in case if there is no stock before, as stock gets in it should be reserved based on order sequence.

I would keep the auto-reservation set to off by default and trigger the auto-reservation at header level ( which will cascade to lines ).

So you would need a process of updating sales orders with FIFO logic to update the field auto-reservation.

Cause you don't want to customize D365 , I would suggest building a PowerAutomate flow which does this and gets trigger or on a event ( sales order creation ) or on schedule where you agree with the business a "wave" of stock allocation/reservation which runs at specific intervals during the day
