SharePoint Folder Name Synchronisation with Opportunity Topic Name

Hi,

I've setup Dynamics 365 to use Our Office 365 SharePoint for storing account and opportunity documents. On the whole this works really well with users being able to synch files offline, etc.

However, there is one REALLY FUSTRATING ISSUE which is that if a user changes the Opportunity Topic Name the SharePoint Folder name does not get updated. Our pipeline process means the majority of opportunities are setup with unique references while NDA's and such like are completed before the proper opportunity name is added so it is an issue in nearly every case.

Are there any settings or scheduled refreshes I can use to fix this?

Many thanks.

    Hi Brendan,

This is an extremely frustrating issue. The problem lies in that the document location in SharePoint is only created when the record in CRM is created. If the record name is updated then the link becomes broken as CRM will be looking for the current name of the record in SharePoint.

    - You can lock the topic field on the forms that your users are using.

This will prevent it from being updated thus preserving the link. This has the large drawback in that you can't input a name on creation. Useful if you have a select group you know not to change the information.

Let us know and verify if it's solved.

    Best of luck,

    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,

Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated and resolves this for me.

Incredibly frustrating there will be no subsequent synch once the folder is created but I now understand it is a limitation. Hopefully MSFT can solve one date.

Based on your answer we'll adopt a strategy of standard references which can link to the folder which we'll supplement with the name for checking the opportunity.

    Many thanks,

    Brendan
