What difference between Phone-Call and Tasks

I am in Sales Management, I generate leads for our sales folks to call. My objective is to upload them to CRM with a due-date by which date they have to call the clients. Since it will be a phone-call, it is easy decision to choose phone-call type over appointment type.

My question is whether I should upload as task or phone-call?

Both sync to MS Outlook, both can be marked completed, they are very similar other than some other details.

In other words, phone call, email, appointment, letters, these different activity types are distinct; but all these activity types can be also considered as tasks.

You can say, first create the task to use reminders/re-occurrence feature; and once this task is completed the sales folks will enter the notes as phone-call activity. In that case, I will see two entries, one task another phone-call, under closed-activities; and also seems double work for sales folks.

What's the best method for this business case?

    Hello Roger,

There is no Set exact way to use CRm, that's the beauty of it,

you can use it the way that best fits your business needs.

If you Need to use the re-occurrence feature then use Tasks, however as you say you that will "double work for sales folks".

best approach I have found is to design/Use the system so that it is easiest to use for the end user. which in your case would be to just use the phonecall activity.

    however, that's just my opinion.

    Other will have different ideas.

    Hi Roger,

You can definitely track it under tasks if you are not looking for any BI/Reports/Dashboards on activities. You cannot define a task as outgoing or incoming, you cannot define on a task that the phone call was made to whom and by whom, you cannot close the task as voice mail left; all of this you can do in a Phone Call form.

At the end of a day/week/month/year if you would like to know that how many calls/emails/appointments were done against leads you cant segregate it with tasks.

Phone calls, emails and appointments are actual activities. While Tasks can be utilised as a reminder or a planning activity etc.
