RMS v2 + Hotfix 40 / Register "Receipt Printer 1" set "Do not print receipt" throws error Invalid Operation 427

Hi folks,

I'm running RMS v2 + Hotfix 40, our registers are able to print just fine when "Receipt Printer 1" is set to either "Print automatically after each transaction" or "Print only after asking the cashier" using the OPOS device (register printer).

However, most customers do not want a receipt, so it is a waste of paper and time printing.

When we set it to "Do not print receipt" and attempt to print from the Journal, RMS throws error "Invalid Operations 427: The OPOS device is not opened. Make sure that the device is enabled in the register properties. If this is a new device you may need to restart the application before it becomes available".

We already restarted the host/app and same issue :(

Thoughts?

I believe u need to set it to print automatically, then, any time pos is opened you must disable auto print with ctrl f9

This will allow reprint to still  work

Opos is,not enabled for the printer if set to do not print, atleast those are my findings

    Nick,

How can I disable auto print CTRL+F9 every time POS is open or how can I make it permanent?

When you push Ctrl button and F9, you will see the printer icon disappear in the upper right corner of the pos screen. This signifies it is disabled. It will stay toggled off, unless you close out of the POS program and re-open it.

A custom dll might be able to attach to a hook and disable it everytime the POS is opened, but I would say just train the cashiers to disable it if they restart the program.

When you select "Do not print" the Printer Type entries are greyed out (disabled).
That in turn causes the error 427 trying to print from the journal.

Ctrl-F9 as recommended by NickZnavor is the easiest way to accomplish what you want. It is unlikely a cashier will re-enable it and you could leave POS up and running 24/7 as long as resizable screen is not enabled.

You could also try the following workaround if Receipt Printer 2 is not currently being used.
Run Store Operations Manager and select Database, Registers, Receipt Formats, New, create a template called Blank or Skip, with no templates selected except Report set to the X report template and perhaps Quotes configured with a valid template if you always want printed quotes.
Next select Database, Registers, Register List, Register 1, Properties, set Receipt Printer 1 to print automatically, Journal unchecked, and select the blank template you created.
For Receipt Printer 2, set to "Do not print", Journal checked, and select your normal receipt template (not the blank one).
Transactions will now skip printouts other than the X/Z report or quotes if defined.
Should a customer want a receipt, complete the transaction, then press Shift-F11. That will print the last journal entry from Receipt Printer 2 settings.
