Do you need to purchase any additional license for the Dynamic CRM 2016 v8.2 (On prem version) extended support?

Hi All,

I’ve a basic clarification question related to the extended support for Dynamic CRM 2016 v8.2 (On prem version).

Based on information here Dynamics CRM 2016 (Dynamics 365) - Microsoft Lifecycle | Microsoft Docs the support mainstream end date for Dynamic CRM 2016 was 01/12/2021 and the extended support is up to 01/13/2026.

My question is, will my customer who is using Dynamic CRM 2016 v8.2 automatically get this extended support for the product until 01/13/2026 or do they have to buy or get any new additional license on top of the base license for getting this extended support for the product?

My understanding is that the extended support is automatically extended to the current customers of Dynamic CRM 2016 v8.2 but wanted to be 100% sure that my customer is in full compliance with the extended support guidelines and licensing as they are now in the extended support timeframe of the product.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Om

    Hey Om!

Extended support is something that should be addressed with the team that provided the previous licenses.  Usually, extended support means:

    - The product will receive security updates & hotfixes, but no functionality improvements.

    - this means that the product should also have the latest available update/cummulative update/Service Pack. Otherwise it's considered out of the support scope

    - depending on the product, a specific contract for extended support might be required.

    Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your reply. I agree with you on the general support availability rules when the product enters in to the extended support life cycle.

My question was specifically for Dynamic CRM 2016 product and if extended support is something that is automatically awarded to the existing licensed customers of the product?

    Kind Regards
