D365 F&O Multi-Site MRP... many-to-many

Looking to understand if D365 F&O MRP can be configured for a many-to-many multi-site scenario.  For example, we have 5 sites (each with say 3 warehouses); three of the sites can produce the same item and the same item can be on hand at any combination of the 15 warehouses.  We want to run MRP such that it considers SOH at all warehouses before telling one particular site to produce new stock.  The multi-site approach I've been shown only allows for any particular warehouse to be setup to produce or transfer and, if transfer, only on a one-to-one basis (eg. replenishment must come from one other wh only).  Sure, we could run MRP on this basis and manually change after the fact... but the whole point of a smart MRP system is to avoid manually changing thousands of rows, no?
Thanks for any advice in advance.

    Hi user,

What are you expecting from the system when item X is on stock in multiple warehouses? What should MRP propose?

    Hi Laurens,
Thanks for engaging with the question.  A simplified example of what I'm asking about might be if an order comes in for 20 units of item X, normally made at Site A wh1 and also held at Site A wh2.  If stock on hand at A1 is 5 units and A2 is 10 units... but we also hold 50 units at Site B wh1, MRP should fulfil the order from B1 rather than get A1 to make 5, 10, 15 or 20 units.  [obviously there might be other practical considerations to complicate the example, like geography, but for argument's sake let's assume this isn't an issue]
    Does that make sense?
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

Makes sense what you mean. Have you already consider to set up multiple item coverages?

    Hi Laurens,
Thank you for your response. It may be as simple as what you point out.  I will follow up with our team.
    Kind regards,
    Jonathan
