We have upgraded a client to NAV 2016, and are having issues in some instances with Notifications giving the error The email address "" is not valid. However, if I try and debug the process, or simply run the Codeunit from designer, the Notifications process and the Email is sent. Has anyone else experienced this?

When you try to debug - It takes you to the error? or The mail is sent?

If the mail is sent when you do the process with debugger active then it is strange! Is this the case? If not, and debugger takes you to the error then you must check which field the debugger is checking and then giving error.

Also, please mention in which instances does this error occur.

The email is sent when run through the debugger.

    Hi Brendan,

Recompile related objects and restart NAV services may help.

Set up User name and Pass on SMTP Setup. NAV will use this account to send mail to another mails.

    Hi

May be the required values are not getting in codeunit/function when it run execute the code

Debugger will help you in this.

    Hi,

What did you mean by "some instances"? Is the error occurs always when you run the process through RTC or is it a random occurrence? If it is a random thing, then you might have to check the code, in some place some logic is creating the issue.

If it happen all the time and if you can overcome it using debugger then I think it might be a bug (most probably not) and you need to report it to Microsoft.

It turned out that the issue was the Domain User the customer had established to run the NAV Service did not have an Email established.  When the codeunit was run in the debugger, it picked up the user who was running the debugger, and since they had an Email, did not fail.  Bottom line, if you are creating a domain user to run your NAV services, create an Email account for them as well.  Thank you for all the suggestions!
