Projects module - link to create a production order

In the Projects module in BC, one can create and fulfill an assembly order with pick, etc. There is no option to be able to create a manufacturing production order if such a finished product was required for the Project.
Is there a way to be able to include a production order in a Project other than create it separately and just add the finished item to the Project.
I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

Business Central lets you create assembly orders directly from a Job, but not production orders. Manufacturing isn’t integrated with Jobs, so the only standard method is to create the production order manually, finish it, then post the finished item to the Job. Anything more requires a small customization.

There is no Standard linkage of Project and Production Order .

    Proposed Solution

A workaround or customization can be implemented , This is just a draft to start with but should be confirmed by busienss team as processes will change . I can suggest as follows:

    • Create a project for each production order and define operation-wise tasks. This will help in detailed tracking.
    • Assign resources to the project for capturing efforts.
    • Project and task creation can either be done manually, or a developer can automate the process so that a project is created automatically when a production order is generated with specfic routing , based on defined logic.
    • Project no and Production Order can be related .
    • You can create custom Reports as per logic
    • Please verify the cost impact too.

    Hello,

Business Central’s Jobs module does not natively allow creating Production Orders directly from a project; only Assembly Orders are supported.

To include a production process, you must create the production order separately, finish the item, and then consume or assign it to the Job via planning lines or item ledger entries.

For tighter integration, you can either customize BC to add a “Create Production Order” option on Job Planning Lines or use third-party manufacturing extensions that link Jobs and Production Orders.

    No customization required!

Assemble-to-Stock and Production Orders offer the same integration to Projects.  You add the produced Item to your project as a Budget type Project Planning Line.  When the Project is in Open status, the Project Planning Line creates demand for the Item.  The Planning Worksheet can be used to generate suggestions on when to make the Item so that it is available for the Project to consume.  This does require the knowledge of BC's planning, so you'll likely want to involve your partner or a knowledgeable resource to assist with the setup.

Depending on the Reordering Policy used, BC could establish a soft or hard allocation of that Production Order's output to the specific Project(s) that require the Item.  You still need to consume the Item to the Project via the Project Journal, but the whole process is fully integrated without the need for customization.

Areas you may WANT customization would be around visibility of the Prod. Order status on the Project, reporting of material/labor from the Prod. Order, or auto-consumption of the Output to the Project.

I hope this helps point you in the right direction.

    Hi,

@Ben Baxter is correct that no customization is required to use production orders for items needed on a Job. The key point is that Jobs do not create production orders directly, but they do create item demand. When you add the manufactured item as a Budget type planning line on the Job, the planning system recognizes this demand. The Planning Worksheet can then suggest a production order to make the item in time for the Job.

The production order is still created through the standard planning process, not from the Job itself. After production is finished, you post consumption to the Job using the Job Journal.

    Thanks
