Dynamics AX supported on Windows Server 2012 R2?

Hi all,

Within short notice Windows Server 2012 R2 will be public available. Does anyone know if AX2012 and/or AX2012 R2 is supported on this operating system? Does somebody already tried to install this combination? Eventually also SQL server?

Or will it be supported with the upcoming AX2012 R3 release?

I just finished one VM with Windows Server 2012 R2, SQL Server 2012 and AX2012 R2, it is working without any problems. I could not find official informations about this kind of environment, i just did it for curiosity!

I have tryied to install AX2012 using Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2014, the installation proccess was fine, the compilation process too, but i was not able the compile the CIL... I think AX2012 R2 is not supported by SQL 2014!!!

    Hi Francisco,

Thanks for your quick answer. Because of some AX installation problems with the first release of Windows Server 2012 I wanted to verify if it was feasible.

I will create a Hyper V with this combination as well.

    Hi Francisco,

Have you looked for details why the CIL compile with SQL 2014 did not work? Have you looked at the event viewer for details?

    Hello André!

I have started the CIL compilation process 4 or 5 times and always with the same error, tha AOS crash and client close....

Since it is not a supported environment i did not spend more time trying to fix this!

But the VM is here, i can start it and show you the log if you want!

    Hi Francisco,

    I'm a little pigheaded. So I tried the combination Windows Server 2012 R2, SQL Server 2014CTP and AX2012 R2 CU6.

I got a lot of errors within the event viewer (event 107 on Report Server Windows Service (SQLSERVER) stating that it cannot connect to the report server database. Each minute while compiling the CIL this error is added in the event log. I killed the CIL compile.

I skipped CIL compile and completed the checklist. Then I deployed all reports from the AOT. Checked that this is working.

From the developer workspace I now started the CIL compile again. Now the error 107 is still showing up, but I think I will wait for the compile to finish himself.

Was this also the error(s) you see in your VM? What errors can you retrieve from your environment?

Update: CIL compile completed sucessfully. But during CIL compilation I got around 20 times the error on the reporting server as mentioned above. This is much less than the initial CIL compile which was terminated after around 4 hours in a virtal machine on my laptop. This time it took around 30 minutes to complete.

Next step: install SharePoint and all AX related components...

    Hello Andre!

Was you able to install the other AX componentes?!!

    Hi Francisco,

I was able to install the Retail components. I miss some prerequisite software for installing SharePoint 2013. I have to download it seperately as my external adapter for Hyper-V is not working...

Can I help you with your environment? I will contact you and send my contact details.

    Hi Franciso,

which account did you use for the AOS-Installation?

If I use any domain user account, the AOS-installation aborts and a window with the Information from Windows Installer shows up.

The only way for me to get the AOS installed is to use the Network Service account.

    I installed AX 2012 R2 on a VM with Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2012.

    Hi Robdems,

I used the 'administrator' account for it. What errors can you find in the installer, installation log and the windows event logs?
