Case management workflow editor: Manual tasks

Good day

We have case process that includes workflow and activities. Currently the only task available in the Case Management workflow editor is the Complete task (See below screenshot). But if a user sets the "Complete" task to Complete, all the other outstanding stages and activities are skipped.

We need a Manual task in the workflow that will allow users to edit the case information, that will not skip all the outstanding activities and stages when the case is released to workflow again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello David,

Can you save your screenshot and try to upload it once again via the use rich formatting button?

Can you also share details of the AX version that you operate?

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

Hi Ludwig, thank you. I added the screenshot below. We are using Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.

    Hello Dawid Jan,

Would it be an option to use multiple tasks and only allow specific actions.

You could for example setup a first task and only allow the release of a work item queue where you specify additional things. This first step could also be automatically completed meaning that the work item queue will automatically be released.

Would that be a 'workaround' for you?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig

It is an interesting approach, but it will require us to work with queues entirely until the process is finished and we update the last task as "Complete". But one of our biggest requirements is that users are notified with an email when they should attend to a case.  As far a I know a email notifications from the workflow is not sent to the users that is part of a work item queue.

    Thanks

    Hello Dawid,

I have not tested the email notification for work item queues in D365FO yet but would expect it to work the same way as all other workflow notifications provided that the user specific parameter for workflow notifications is set.

Might be worth testing this out before thinking about making an enhancement to the existing standard workflow.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig

I have tested the email notifications with and without queues multiple times and it does not work with queues. I have also seen other blog post where users are coming to the same conclusion.

I would be delighted if you could  prove me wrong.
