What is the purpose of this "Return Original Quantity"?

Hi Community,

May I know what is the purpose of this "Return Original Quantity"?

I understand that it is to return the original number of the Sales order, but I see that more often than not, even if you return the original quantity, users will not be able to reverse the entire quantity. So if that is the case, there must be some uses for this?

Kindly help to advise. Thank you !

your understanding is correct. but there might be cases that qty of sold items couldn't be returned in full qty.

Let's say you purchased 10 items and sold 2, leaving you with 8 items in inventory. When you use the "Get Posted Document Lines" function to reverse the transaction and leave the "Return Original Quantity" option set to "No," the system will create a line on your credit memo or return order for the remaining 8 items.

If you set "Return Original Quantity" to "Yes," the system will create a line on your credit memo or return order for the full original quantity of 10 items. This is because the system assumes that you will source the items already consumed or sold from elsewhere and are returning the full quantity to the vendor, rather than just the 8 remaining items.
