AXUpdateInstaller.exe list not giving any output

Hi,

I have setup 10.0.39 and restored a blank DB.

I extracted Service Update 10.0.41 To C:\SU41

But when I run .\AXUpdateInstaller.exe list I don't get the output.

PS C:\SU41> .\AXUpdateInstaller.exe list
List of Runbook ID on the system:
SU41

List of services installed on the system:

So I ignored it and tried to execute the runbook after filling up the DefaultTopology file with all the services.

But I'm getting below error:

PS C:\SU41> .\AXUpdateInstaller.exe execute -runbookid="SU41"
Start executing runbook : SU41
Executing step: 1
BackupConnectionString script for service model: AOSService on machine: localhost
Manual AOS connection string backup step.
The step: 1 is in failed state, you can use rerunstep command to debug the step explicitly
PS C:\SU41>

Any tips?

    Hi,

Same issue on a Onebox while trying to update v39 to 41.

List is empty and I can't import the runbook I generated.

I was able to update another environement which is a cloud-hosted.

No solution found yet for the OneBox.

    Will update if found.

Either use a topology file from a previous update. Or use Invoke-D365SDPInstall from d365fo.tools (version 0.7.15 or higher) with -Command RunAll, which will handle all the AXUpdateInstaller.exe commands for you and generate a topology file with a list of known services if AXUpdateInstaller.exe list provides no output.

Hi, the same issue here. Downloaded a "fresh" 10.0.39 VHD from LCS, after setting up a dev box with this 10.0.39, tried to update to 10.0.41, but get the same errors like mentioned before.
    - no list of services with axupdateinstaller
    - error while importing runbook (Failed to run action 'ExportToFile' after 1 attempt)

I already tried Invoke-D365SDPInstall , but still get the error message.

Currently I'm not able to update the DevBox (I also tried to update to 10.0.39, to 10.0.40 and to 10.0.41). every time I get the same error:

09:26:44.8038] Failed to run action 'ExportToFile' after 1 attempt(s)
[09:26:44.8038] Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

    Hey,

I have actually found the workaround on this, based on the comments from this thread: (8) Viva Engage : Dynamics 365 and Power Platform Preview Programs : View Conversation

    1. Open regedit on your 10.0.39 VHD, and navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dynamics\Deployment.
    2. Edit the 'InstallationInfoDirectory' key to be 'C:\Logs'.
    3. Check if 'C:\Logs' folder is empty. If it is, copy the 'InstallationRecords' folder from 'C:\Logs' from existing VHD machine to your target 10.0.39 VHD.
    4. Done, you can continue creating runbooks on your 10.0.39 VHD to be updated to future versions.

Please note that your disk might have some other letter and not C :)
