Moving GP to the cloud, basically comes down to executing the steps in KB article 878449 - support.microsoft.com/.../how-to-transfer-an-existing-microsoft-dynamics-gp--microsoft-small-bus

While you can still access the application via RDS, it is best if you deploy web client taking into consideration what third party applications you are using as not all are fully web client compatible. To set up the web client, you will need a VM running IIS. With web client, you will also need to sort out how you will want authentication to work. Assuming by 'cloud' you mean Azure, you could have users access GP with their Azure AD account (same Office 365 account) or their traditional domain account.

If they are going to access with their traditional domain account, you will need to add a VM in Azure running Windows Active Directory, in order to sync you on-premise AD with the cloud AD. If you are going fully cloud - that is, you are moving other resources like your domain controller - you will need to do a DC promo to let your Azure DC be he primary DC.

In any case, post back if you have additional questions.

    Hi,

It depends on your needs .... and the number of ISV products you may have installed on your on-premise GP setup..

It is possible, but you better talk to your partner about the options. Or shop around for ISV's that do offer GP in the cloud ..

Have a look at our partner : www.endeavoursolutions.ca/GPcloud

    Or Njevity ToGo: http://www.njevity.com/cloud

it can start as litle as about 160$/mth per user.. but can go much more expensive.. You have to do your homework and make an ROI calculation to see if it's worth the move.

I would not recommend web client to any organization. It has major flaws. Specifically this: community.dynamics.com/.../214035

It comes up in a variety of scenarios.

When it hits you have to log out and log back in again to start your work.

It is best to use RemoteApp server instead.

M.O., you will need to prove to me that this is an issue. I have been deploying web client for years now - probably one of the first in doing so and have not experienced any issues. I also know an entire organization built around hosting GP in the cloud and using nothing but the web client to deliver the UI to end-users.

Maybe one day you can explain to us all what issue you are having and not just point to an issue you had that none of us here can recreate.

    Hello,

The steps for us to move Dynamics GP into the cloud are relatively simple.
    1. A full backup is done on your on-premise system.
    2. The data is restored in a new location – on a server in a secure data center.
    3. Your users access your same Dynamics GP system, via an Internet connection.

For more Information please go through this link: https://www.calszone.com/microsoft-dynamics-gp/dynamics-gp-online/moving-dynamics-gp-to-the-cloud/

    Thanks,

    Anita

As previously mentioned following the steps in KB878449 allows you to move to another server. It does not matter whether it is another server on premise server or a cloud server. The GP web client is another matter. Keeping up with windows updates on both the server and clients is important. We have done hundreds of server moves and when problems are encountered it is usually due to old hardware/software or security issues.

Thumbs up as Njevity provides a great cloud solution!  Having clients using their solution for years now, it is proven to be solid.
