No Default Location Per Item?

Posted on by 3,482

Hi:

I'm surprised that there is no way of placing individual inventory items into a default location on the Item Card, for processing in manufacturing and distribution.

Having this feature would solve so many problems.

Why does this functionality not exist?

    @Zhu: Thanks!

    What's the best course or method of learning Application Language, so that I can someday conduct this sort of programming?

    RE: No Default Location Per Item?

    Hi, As far as I know, there are default location code in Vendor and Customer in BC, but not in Item.

    Although the default location can be set by the following method, Bin is mandatory.

    Assign Default Bins to Items:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-nz/dynamics365/business-central/warehouse-how-to-assign-default-bins-to-items

    Or you can make a simple customization, add a Default Location field to the Item Card, and then add an action on the page you need, such as Get Location From Items action, choose this action can apply the default location to your data. I think the impact of this is relatively small.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

    I think you can use bin management to assign a default location for an item by setting up bin content
