Excel Report Builder Numeric Field Options

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 45

I created a SmartList to provide our employees with a detail of the vacation time they have earned and used.  In SmartList Builder, when I click on the expansion button above the fields scrolling window for a long integer field, three tabs are displayed (display, decimal places and negative values).  I have duplicated this report in Excel Report Builder, but when I click on the expansion button only two tabs are available (display and negative values).  I need to change the number of decimal places for the long integer field, so I need the decimal places tab to be available.  How can I make that tab display?

    Hi Leslie,

Thank you for your suggestions.  I'll give those a try and determine which one works best.  It just seems so odd to me that the decimal place option exists in SmartList Builder and not in Excel Report Builder.  I thought for sure I was missing something really easy or needed to turn on a feature not currently installed.  I know how much difference checking one little box somewhere can make.  If only there was a little box to check that would fix my problem...

    Hi Kristy,

You're right, as far as I know, there isn't a way to achieve the thrid tab. But, heck, there's always a way. How many decimals did you want to display? Have you considered using an Excel template and then  using a macro to run that will format the cells with the properties you want?

You can also create an Excel spreadsheet with the formatting pre-determined and saved. With these properties set, whenever you refresh the worksheet, your decimal place formatting will be enforced.

So, first you would create the template using Excel Report Builder to build the report, and then you would need to use your Excel skills to go into the file produced by the builder tool and modify the format.

Of course, I'm not sure of your requirements, but GP is an application with an extraordinary number of possibilities. You can do it with your current resources, custom programming is not required.

    Kind reagards,

    Leslie
