You can follow this guide. Not everything migrates so you will need to evaluate your unique requirements.

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for your response, but the mentioned link refers to "Migrate to Business central from Dynamics GP". I just want to know Is there any migration tool available to migrate the data from Dynamics GP to D365 finance and operation? (Not business central). Appreciate your response.

    Regards,

    Frank

I am not aware of any GP to DYN365 Finance and Operations migration tool. There is one for Dynamics AX however..

I believe that this is a full re-implementation.

Please note that Dynamics GP has a long life still is NOT end of life.

    Hi Frank,

Any particular reason why a business want to move away from GP to an AX based platform ? I don't know 365F&O in particular, but those look to me as 2 complete different ERP's and hence will involve a big learning curve to the end-users... not to speak of the costs of a full re-implementation. GP is by far not dead and has been recently confirmed by Microsoft to be around at least until 2028 and possibly behind that.

Beat to your point - I think there is a great deal of misunderstanding in the user community.  With all the main line Microsoft products getting the '365' tag - when the user community sees Dynamics 365 they seem to believe it is the next step in the Dynamics product 'upgrade' path.

This has caused a lot of issues for a number of clients who want to be current and also are getting the bug to go to the cloud.  I think it is on Microsoft to make a better distinction for the user community and spell out what it takes to (1) go to Microsoft 365 and (2) what it means to be cloud based.

You and Richard both make the point on the 'new implementation' - we had a client that was running Dynamics on site for many years, in comes a new controller and a new IT manager and they both insisted that they knew the best solution was to be on the current version of Dynamics - that being Dynamics 365 - and even after they were shown it was a totally different solution - they (being new) did not seem to care and moved forward with the entire move.  Nine months later they almost have the GL online, using their old format GL Accounts and have almost got 2 years of data (of over 15 years in GP) moved into the new solution.  Users are not happy, but now they are on the newest version of Dynamics.

Thank you Bill for this insight example..

That's the exact same reason why I quit my first GP admin position back in 2009 and another one in 2018, because in the 1st case the company wanted to re-implement the ERP system from scratch (having had GP for 10 years) while told it was not used efficiently by some external consultants.. Not listening to my words telling them to stick with GP but upgrade to the latest version (GP 10 was out for a year and they were on 8.5) to get all the benefits of the new release, they insisted on requesting quotes from various vendors and selected Sage X3 as their new ERP system because the vendor was doing the best presentation compared to 2 other GP partners.. 2 years and 1.5$ mio later, they still weren't fully operational on their new ERP and as I recently talked to a senior employee in the company there (over 10 years after the new ERP was implemented), it looks like they might go back to GP..

I agree that Microsoft does a bad job on the Marketing side and gives the impression that GP is dead, whereas it is the opposite.. 45k+ customers can't be wrong.. but heck, Everything labeled D365 is modern and is the true cash cow for them... and many partners. The ever changing landscape in modern software might make happy the developers from big software companies as it keeps them busy re-inventing new tools all the time, but customers are not big fans of big changes.. they prefer to stick to true-and-tested apps and only looking for small improvements and bug fixes.. that's all they want in the end and their business running happily forward.

PS: not saying change is bad, but it needs to done in measured steps.
