Adding an Attribute to Activity Entity

I have added an attribute to the individual activities, Task and Appointment called Type.  I would like this attribute to show up in the Activity views, (main view with all Actvities listed) but it is not an option.  The Activity Entity will also not let me add it (there is no 'New' button).  Anyone else been through this?

 Any help would be great.

    Hi Jamie,

    This is out of the box behavior.  We are not allowed to add attributes to the activity entity itself.  We can add fields to individual actual activities such as email or task.  But there is no out of the box method to display those in the associated activity view. 

    The only method would be to build a completely custom window using the sdk.  We did something similar:

    Thanks for the reply - not what I wanted to hear - but thanks.

    This doesn't make much sense to me:  It lets you add fields to the different activites, but then you can't display them in column form?  Some of the things CRM doesn't do boggles the mind...
