T&L Inventory Categorization limitation

Hello,

I'm given to understand that within T&L, profiling an item (SKU) within Inventory, the categorization is dependent on a single table whereby all data within each level of category has to be unique. Isn't this fundamentally wrong since I may have similar product characteristics that fall into different product categories?

Eg., Perfumary->Aftershave->50ml

                                             ->100ml

                         ->Cologne   ->50ml

                                             ->100ml

(please excuse the simplistic example)

Our Implementor (Microsoft partner) insists the above cannot be done. If true, how have other trading/retail institutions circumvented this limitation?

I have the same question (0)

    Hello Suhail,

    I think you have to give us a bit more information especially on the following elements:

    * You mentioned that the categorization is dependent on a single table. Is this table on that you created/customized?

    * When you say 'characteristics', what AX element do you use for recording and differentiating the different characteristics?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hello Dr. Ludwig,

    Single Table:

    I was given to understand by the implementers that Product Category is stored in a single table with the unique key set. In layman terms that would mean all data stored within this table would have to be unique. I do not know if this is a AX 2012 R3 standard table or not.

    Characteristics:

    I was simply describing the different attributes or characteristics of a product that one may use for reporting. These attributes/characteristics we would like to store within the Product Category feature. In other words (going by the example I provided), if I were to do this:

    [Category] Perfumery ->[sub-Category] Type (eg. Aftershave) ->[sub-sub Category] 100ml (volume)

    I would then be able to provide reports where within [Category] Perfumery, I could see my sales for [sub-sub Category] 100ml across all [sub-Category] Type (ie., Aftershave, Cologne etc.).

    And in order to be able to do that I would have to repeat the Volume (50ml, 100ml etc) in sub-sub Category for each Type (Aftershave, Cologne, Eau de Toilette etc.) in the sub-Category.

    I hope I'm making sense.
