Default GL Account to AR Distribution Account Type

Posted on by 25

Is there a way when entering a Credit Memo to assign a default GL Account Number for AR Account Type "WRITE" or "CRMEMO"?  They come up blank on the Distribution Screen.

Thanks,

Ray

Yea I am dealing with A/R credit memos.  Under posting accounts cleared out the account tied to credit memos, and then ensured that I had an account listed for everything possible in the customer class and customer accounts areas.  With this setup, no account is pulled in for the distribution.

I think I may be out of luck.  I am integrating the credit memos via the Web Services, and I can supply the distributions there, but was attempting to avoid that route.

    Thanks for peeking into it.

On the Customer card, there is an "Accounts" button at the bottom right.  You should see one called Sales Returns or something like that.  I'm looking in a test system right now and all I see if Sales Order Returns which is suprising to me, but I thought it was there in some other configuration for other options.  It seems that Sales order returns would deal with Sales Orders only.

If you put this account in the Sales Order Returns field on the Customer Account Cards and it still pulls the account from Posting Setup, you might be out of luck.  Maybe that option does not exist?

Try all those accounts on a customer and see what they do.

I think you are talking about A/R credit memos and not returns through SOP.  If it is from SOP there is another thing to check. If you have your SOP setup to say "Use posting Accounts from ITEM" instead of Customer, you will need to set this in the individual item.

The system should be pulling the data from the Customer card if it has been entered or rolled-down from the Customer Class.  Try setting either of these up (remember a Class change can roll-down to all affected Customers!) and then enter a new transaction to test the distribution.

     Kevin,

I was wondering how you get an account to pull into a CRMEMO distribution from the customer card.  I want to default in this distribution from information at a customer class level, but can only get GP to pull in the Account that is specified in posting accounts.  Let me know if you know of anymore information that allows for the account to pull from the customer.

    Thanks

Thanks Kevin!  I tried that before I posted the question.  I may have done something incorrectly so I will try again.

I am assuming that this is the A/R side.  You can set this information on each customer card under the "Accounts" button.  If you wanted to do it system wide, you can also go to Tools - Setup - Posting - Posting Accounts, select the sales series and put it in the appropriate.box.  When you enter a transaction, it first looks at the Customer Card for these accounts and if they are blank on the customer card, then it looks at the posting account setup.  If both of those are blank, it will be blank on the transaction.
