CRM AD Migration

Hello,

Actually, we have an environment where CRM 2016 OnPremise + SqlServer + SSIS + SSRS are installed one the same server. All should move to another domain.

As I understood, the recommanded scenario is to reinstall everything on a new server, but as you may guess, it would require quite a lot of work.

Does someone have any feedback in just changing the domain of the actual server?  Another approch is to reinstall only the CRM on the new server and to bind it to the SqlServer of the actual one. It would bring us a better architecture in the same time. What do you think about it ? Difficult ?

The safest approach is to reinstall. This shouldn't be a large amount of work. The main steps are:

    • Install SQL, SSIS and SSRS on the new server
    • Copy the organisation database(s) to the new SQL Server
    • Install CRM on the new server
    • Import the CRM organisation database, and map users (if the users' domain has changed)

The other options are either not supported (e.g. having the CRM and SQL servers in different domains), or liable to cause issues that could take a long time to diagnose and resolve. Some of these issues are:

    • Service accounts will need to be changed, and the appropriate permissions assigned
    • SPNs will need to be created
    • Some of the SQL system data may need to be updated
