*?*?*Printing Long Item Descriptions on Receipts*?*?*

We have some really long item descriptions in RMS (400 to 500 characters that wrap onto around 24 lines) that are printing incorrectly on receipts. Instead of part of the description printing on the first page and then the rest overflowing to the next page, nothing prints on the first page and RMS prints the whole thing on the next page causing the description to bleed into the footer. Any ideas on how to get the description to print correctly on two pages?

Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I ended up doing. I modified the xml file and reduced the width on the other fields until the longest description fit, and then it printed correctly. It just seemed like it shouldn't have been printing the way it was, so I didn't know if anyone had heard of the problem or if it could be fixed in the xml.

I guess it's an issue with RMS, but I'm assuming there aren't many people trying to print receipts with item descriptions that span more than one page. :^)

Thanks again for the reponses... JLC

    Johnny C,

Peter is right you can get it to print by editing the .xml design.  the row you want to add is.

     <ROW>  "|" Entry.Item.ExtendedDescription "|  </ROW>

you will need to re-link the design in SO Manger before you see the changes take effect. You may want to make a copy of the .xml design first, just in case.

    Hi again,

You may have already thought about this, but I guess there is really no harm in throwing ideas around: You could play around with the XML file for the fullpage template such that you can format the receipt to look more presentable.

I have seen the fullpage template. It is formated to display the various line items in a tabular form. Isn't it? It could be altered such that the extended description is printed as a row that stretches the full width of the page. That way the number of lines that it occupies will be fewer. This is simply one suggestion.

    Peter.

     Thanks for the response.

We're using the Extended Description field since it's medical related. We're just using a regular printer on 8 1/2 X 11 paper. I believe the template is a derivative of the fullpage receipt template.

    Hello Johnny,

The Item entry's description property has a maximum lenght of 25 characters. It sounds like you could be printing the details of another field. Possibly the Item's Extended description.

Question though? Are you using the normal windows printers or could you be using one of those ETR printers?

    Peter.
