Derived Financial dimensions scope

Hi !

I gather that derived financial dimension is reduced to a scope of entity base dimension and custom dimension.

For example Financial Dimension based on Project, Item Group and so on are not available to be defined as a derived financial dimension.

The screenshot below shows a standard Contoso Environment. The project financial dimension (1) is not avalaible to be added as a segment for antoher financial dimension (2)

Does someone could confirm to me that segment in derived financial is reduced so a limited scope of custom and entity based financial dimensions?

Kind regards,

I have the same question (0)

    Hi PICCIN AYMERIC,

Derived dimension cannot be enabled on Module Level dimensions just like Item/Project. What you can do is create Custom Project Dimension and then it will allow you to setup Derived dimension. I did the same for one of our client.

    Hi Junaid,

I get that. I wonder why it is not written in Microsoft Dynamics documentation.

Nowhere we have mention of a limited area of financial dimension type which is able to be defined as a derived financial dimension.

The problem is: if your customer creates project every day, we cannot ask him to create them as financial dimension too. That's precisely why project based financial dimension is useful.

Anyway, thanks for your quick reply. I will let open the topic some time to see if someone have a workaround and other explanation about that.

    Regards,

In my case, we are not using project accounting module therefore we used custom project dimension in order to use on Sales order screen and using it also in Journal voucher in GL.

If you are already using project accounting module then can you tell me why do you want to use project dimension as Derived dimension?

One logical reason i can see is Because modular level data is managed in module and can be deleted. For example you have created a project and based on that you also defined derived dimension and later if you want to delete that project.

However that's the limitation that we currently have in the product. You can log your feedback on ideas portal if you want: experience.dynamics.com/.../
