Dynamics 365 and Teams Integration at no additional cost?

Hello Community,

According to the Microsoft blog (https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/dynamics365/bdm/2021/07/14/bring-dynamics-365-into-the-flow-of-work-with-teams-at-no-additional-cost/) published on July 14th, it says "With Dynamics 365 and Teams, we’re speeding up the flow of work, enabling anyone in an organization to view and collaborate on Dynamics 365 records, from within the flow of work with Teams—at no additional cost."

Does this mean users who do not have a Dynamics 365 license can access Dynamics 365 records in Teams? And by access, does this mean those users can view and edit the records too, or just read-only?

I couldn't seem to find any online information that will confirm on my questions above. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hello, in order to use the Dynamics 365 and Teams integration, you do need a Dynamics license. The reason for this is that there is some configuration that must be done in Dynamics by the System Admin in order to use the Integration.

However, you do NOT need an additional integration license between Teams and Dynamics.

I would suggest the following document that explains the configuration in Dynamics that will be needed to enable the integration experience: docs.microsoft.com/.../teams-install-app

    Hi JESmith ,

Thank you for your response. However, what's interesting that I have discovered is that a user without a Dynamics license is able to open and edit a Dynamics record in Teams. Below is the scenario I have experimented:

User A has Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise license with system admin role. User A has M365 E5 license, which entitles the user to access Teams.

User B does not have any Dynamics 365 license. User B has M365 E5 license, which entitles the user to access Teams.

User A set up the integration between Dynamics 365 Sales and Teams. User A set up a Team site called Sales team in Teams, and added User B as member of the Sales team. User A pinned a Dynamics 365 contact record to the tab of the Sales team channel. User A is able to edit the Dynamics 365 contact record directly in Teams as expected.

When User B logs in to Teams, User B is able to see the same Dynamics 365 contact record  under the Sales team channel tab. User B is able to edit and save changes to the contact record directly within Teams. I wasn't expecting this, but it seems it's possible - which is really odd and interesting...

Is this what you would expect as well?
