Edit Default Order Report/Excel Export

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 405

Hello,

I have a request in from the sales people in my organization to modify the output of the order report (see image).  I've looked through the customizations for a days and cannot seem to find any way I can edit what they want.  They would like it to not show the footer on the report when it exports to PDF/Excel.  Currently the footer shows who the report was prepared by including the date.  They would like that to go away.  Any thoughts?

Thank you for any assistance!

    Hi Phil,

    Here is the process

    1. Go to your Reports Section select Order Report and click edit.

    2. This will open the Report Wizard. Click on Actions on the Top and select Download Report

    3. An RDL File will get downloaded

    5543.2.jpg

    4. Open Visual Studio having BIDS or SSDT installed based on the Visual Studio you have. Create a new Report Server Project.

    5. You also need to have Report Authoring Extension installed for the CRM Online version you are using.

    6. All OOB Report use Fetch XML based Report.

    7. Add the downloaded Report RDL File to the Project. And Double click the RDL File. It will open the File for you to make the changes

    3276.2.jpg

    8. For Testing you will need to add your Credentials in the Data Source. RDL File will not store your Credentials once you import back the RDL File to Dynamics CRM

    9. Once you are done with your editing and testing you can import back the Order Report RDL File. Click on Edit for the Order Report and Browse your RDL File which you have just edited.

    10. That's it :)

    Hope that helps

    Thanks

    Hello Mithilesh,

I'm sorry for the delay.  I've attempted to add the RDL file to Visual Studio 2012 after installing the SQL Server Database Tools (SSDT) but it will not show the design view.  I've confirmed that the report viewer versions were updated from version 10 to version 11, but it still will not show.  The RDL does not appear underneath reports.  If I create a NEW report, design view pops up with no problems.  Is there something else I'm missing?

    Thank you,

    Phil

    Hi Phil,

What happens when you create a new Report Sever Project and then try to add an existing RDL file (the one you downloaded from Dynamics CRM).

Do you get any error. Please post the screen of what you have done so far, we can have a look.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks

    Mithilesh,

If I add the RDL to a newly created project, it only displays in XML.  When I click on view, the three options at the top for viewing of code, design, and one other that I can't recall, are not present.  I have been unable to find a way around that, so I just copied the XML code to a new report in the same project and it came up with the design view as you showed in your first reply.

Having done this, I continued on with your instructions and saved the RDL locally so that I could upload it to CRM Online as you instructed.  This process seemed to be going quite well until I got a strange error when I hit Save in CRM after browsing to and selecting the newly created RDL.  I wish I had the same computer with me at the moment, but I'm presently without it.  The error message is as follows when attempting to upload BOTH the modified report, AND with the same RDL file that I downloaded direct from CRM:

    Unhandled Exception: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.OrganizationServiceFault, Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral
      <ErrorCode>-2147220970</ErrorCode>
      <ErrorDetails xmlns:d2p1="http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/System.Collections.Generic" />
<Message>Invalid Operation: Trying to update an attribute in Live, which is not allowed</Message>

I've not changed it from FetchXML to SQL.  And my user has full administrative access to all of CRM.  Not sure what could be wrong here.  I've searched around for this error, but it's fairly generic and yields few results.  One person states that Microsoft told them that this is by design, but I'm finding that hard to believe.  Let me know if you can use any additional information.  I didn't want to post too much of the error log for anyone to find out personal details about the business in question.

    Thank you,

    Phil

    Phil,

They haven't this bug I guess. This has been carried forward from CRM 2011 I guess.

    Hello,

I'm checking back in to let everyone know my ticket was answered thusly:

This is intended behavior, unfortunately.  Default reports export in SQL format, but cannot be reimported in that same format.  Instead, you must convert them to FetchXML prior to importing them back into CRM.

Now, I'm not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination, so I'm a bit stuck now.  I tried the SQL2FLEXXML site that a lot of people reference, but it errors out on line 2 when I paste the report code in there.  I'm guessing it will only take raw SQL statements, but I am not sure what constitutes a complete SQL query. My attempts have yielded no results. My next option is to pay a consulting company to convert this report for me or find a program that will convert SQL to FetchXML.

I'm frustrated that this is the end result.  I wish Microsoft would reconsider exporting all these reports as SQL, and instead export them to FetchXML if that's all they're going to allow us to upload.

I'm selecting your response as the closest answer, Mitilesh.  Thank you for your assistance and have a great day.
