Description:   Hello Community,

I am working with a free trial tenant of Dynamics 365 Business Central and I am unable to download AL symbols in Visual Studio Code. Despite having the correct configuration in both app.json and launch.json, the symbol download fails with Internal Server Error responses.

Environment details:

  • Tenant ID: 98666d28-fa04-482e-8d19-c2bf852a32fa
  • Environment: Production
  • User: madiha@sapiensv2.com
  • Platform: 28.0.0.0
  • Application: 28.3.0.0
  • Dependencies:
    • System Application 28.3.52162.52273
    • Application 28.3.52162.52848
    • Base Application 28.3.52162.52848

Error log excerpts:

  • Request IDs: 0236539e-7b17-40a5-a8c4-c55e1629e5c9, 437adb31-5591-4404-a7dc-5a1c32677c31, e0fc2a84-834d-409a-9faa-e5b7649f9167
  • Session ID: 341ea3be-42ba-4c49-8158-d30a375e7cb1
  • Error: Internal Server Error when requesting System Application and Application packages.

Steps already tried:

  • Verified tenant and environment settings in launch.json
  • Updated app.json with exact dependency versions from Extension Management
  • Cleared the .alpackages cache and retried symbol download
  • Authenticated successfully with my Microsoft account

Despite these steps, the issue persists. Could anyone advise how to resolve this symbol download problem in a trial tenant?

Thank you, Madiha

Make sure you have the correct permissions in that environment. You will want the following permissions assigned without a specific company identified:

If you're unsure where to update permisions you want to do that from the Users page.

Thanks for pointing that out. I checked my User Card in Business Central and I already have the SUPER role assigned, along with other sets like LOCAL and LOGIN. Since SUPER gives full permissions, I don’t think this is a permissions issue in my case.

I’ve also verified my app.json dependencies against the exact versions in Extension Management, cleared the .alpackages cache, and retried symbol download. Unfortunately, I’m still facing the same Internal Server Error when requesting System Application and Application packages.

It looks like the problem may be on the service side of the trial tenant rather than my configuration or permissions. I’ll raise this through the Report a problem option in Business Central and include the Request IDs and Session IDs from my logs.
