Application User cannot set Application Id

I followed this guide for Dynamics 365 v.8.2:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt790170.aspx#bkmk_CreateAppUser

I successfully created the application user and assigned him a license, and a copy of a system admin role.

But whenever I switch to the application user form to set the application ID the app ID will always be set to blank after saving the record.

I did grant my application the right to acces Dynamics 365.

Any ideas why it does not work?

RE: Application User cannot set Application Id

I have tried creating a new application user, but all fields are grayed out.

Our users sync to CRM from our 365 AD.  How can I add an application ID to an existing user?  I have not been able to find a way to do so.

I have followed the mentioned step but I am getting the user already exists error (and correctly because of the auto user creation from O365).

    My questions:

    • Can I update the Application ID for an existing user (i.e. change and existing user to Application User)?
    • How does one do this in auto sync upon user creation in O365 (on grant on a Dynamics license)?

    Thanks,

Well thats the main issue I also had and thought it would be.

    Follow these steps:

    1. In CRM go to the users list

    2. IMPORTANT: Switch to the application user view!!

    3. Click New to create a new user.

    4. Right in that view should appear the application user form

RE: Application User cannot set Application Id

    Hi Andreas,

Unfortunately this does not work in our CRM Environment (D365 CRM Online). Users cannot be created manually in CRM, only through O365 Admin Portal. In CRM, when I open the User which has been created in O365 Admin Portal, dedicated to use as Application User, I cannot save the Application ID, its always set back to blank after saving the record.

    Any further ideas?

I found the solution on this blog:

    www.wrapcode.com/server-authentication-dynamics-crm

Main issue was that I did not create the user within CRM. So with the create new user form opened and having the application user form switched to it is necessary to place that application id right in that step.
