The problem at the moment is that there is an error that there is no printer or cash drawer attached when opening POS.
We have an Epson TM-T88IV connected to the till via parallel to serial connection. The Cash Drawer is running in parallel with Receipt printer.
I have tried to add the printer using Epson OPOS but failed when trying to test the connection. There is no option to add the printer using MS OPOS.
Also tried to add the printer as a windows printer using the advanced printer driver 4 which installs and creates an LPT1 port, but although listed in printers and faxes within windows, the error says no connection. I also tried to add the printer as a serial port COM1 but the same problem within Windows.
I have a few screenshots of error and Epson OPOS Tree if this helps

If you are using a serial interface to the printer that may be causing some of the delay. It seems to me that the receipt should print as fast as the Z report, so I would make one last look through the receipt properties and make sure that all fonts are set to Epson built-in fonts (maybe I missed one), the thinking here being that the receipt may be using a font that the Z report is not, thus slowing the receipt.
When it comes time to change those printers, switch to USB - much faster! You may be able to buy new interfaces for the TM88- IV series, but I don't know if the cost would be worth it.

Marc, Sorry for the delay. I only managed to change the settings today.
Z Report is like machine gun fire. standard receipts are slow off the mark, but then quite quick. Much improved!! I would say that the till receipts take about 10 seconds to print. They are much happier.
Many thanks for all your help with this and my previous question.
Paul,
Glad to hear it is working and YES there is a way to get the speed up to par. You have to change the fonts on the receipt to native printer fonts.
Go into Store Ops manager Database | Registers| Recipt Formats
In receipt prpoperties change the fonts to the following:
Default font - FONTA11
Small font - FONTB11
Large font - FONTB21
Receipts should now spit out like machine gun fire!
Marc
Marc, Youre and absolute genius!! Printer and cash drawer working, but the printing speed is REALLY slow. Is there any way of speeding up the printer, as the cash drawer opens immediately after transaction....but then you have to wait 1 minute for the receipt to print.
Thanks again,
Paul
For Windows APD driver:
From a former post:
Open your “Printers” folder and open “Properties” for the EPSON printer installed.
Select the “Ports” tab.
look through the list of available ports for "TMUSB".
If it is on the list, select it, click “Apply” and then do a print test.
If it is not in the list:
Open “Start”, “Settings” and “Control Panels”.Then open “System”.
Click on the tab labeled “Hardware” and then the button “Device Manager”.
Look for and delete/uninstall any and all listings for “EPSON USB Controllers”. It may be listed under the category of “Other” and/or “Universal Serial Bus Controllers”.
Turn the printer off and unplug the USB cable.
Reboot the computer.
Run the EPSON Advanced Printer driver install (../EPSON Advanced Printer Driver/Setup/Silentinst.exe).
Install the USB driver (it is second in the list of products).
Reboot your computer then plug in the USB cable then turn printer on.
Open your “Printers” folder and open “Properties” for the EPSON printer.
Select the “Ports” tab.
Look through the list of available ports for “TMUSB”.
Select it, click “Apply” and then do a print test.
If you still do not see the TMUSB port option, repeat from step 4.
Printer settings/operation
add open drawer command for Start of Document
add cut for end of page
Most people out there are using OPOS, but I have been using Epson TM88's (IV thru V) with Windows drivers for many years.
